Vijayadashami is an important festival of Hindus, observed in every part of India. It is celebrated on the tenth day (Dashami Tithi of Brighter Fortnight) of the month of Aswin just after completed of Navaratri (Prathami Tithi to Navami Tithi of Brighter Fortnight) celebration. The Mother Goddess Durga is the main deity of this festival. It is also called as Dussehra or Durga Puja. This festival is not only limited in India but also celebrated in Nepal.

The great epic Ramayan describes, on this day Rama rescued Sita and defeated Ravan. As per mythological legend, Mother Goddess Durga fought against demon Mahishasura for nine days and Mahishasura was killed on the tenth day. Durga represents two forms of female energy "mild and protective" and "fierce and destructive". The demon Mahishasura was most powerful and captured heaven with all Gods. Mother Durga killed Mahishasura and saved ever heaven.
